The G7 summit in Alberta, Canada will congregate for a third day today - with the notable exception of US President Donald Trump. The US president left the economic bloc's summit ahead of schedule last night, with the White House confirming he had to see to affairs at home as Israel's strikes on Iran continue.

Before leaving, President Trump joined the other leaders in issuing a statement saying Iran "can never have a nuclear weapon" and calling for a "de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.

The G7 is a two-day meeting for leaders of the world's largest democracies, but President Trump abruptly left Calgary late Monday night. While at the summit, he signed a modified G7 statement urging resolution between Israel and Iran,
