Simon Wang was proud to become the highest-drafted player born in China when the San Jose Sharks selected him Saturday with the first pick of Round 2 of the NHL draft, and the 6-foot-5 defenseman is also confident he won't hold that distinction for long.

The Sharks began day two of the NHL Draft on Saturday by taking Wang with the 33rd overall selection at the start of the second round. Wang, born in Beijing in 2007, became the highest-drafted Chinese-born player in NHL history.
