India imports around two million barrels of crude oil per day from Russia, making it the second largest purchaser of Russian oil after China, according to the New York Times. Russia’s share of Indian oil imports has increased from less than 1% before the war to more than a third.

Indian Oil Corp (IOC) , the country's top refiner, has bought 7 million barrels of September-arrival crude from the United States, Canada and the Middle East via a tender, several trade sources said on Monday.

India hasn’t given the country’s oil refiners instructions to stop buying Russian oil, according to people familiar, days after US President Donald Trump blasted New Delhi for the energy purchases.
