Victoria Police's Superintendent Kelly Lawson said a fight broke out in the Northland Shopping Centre food court about 2:30pm, after 10 people belonging to two "rival gangs" met up.

Emergency services rushed to Northland Shopping Centre, Preston, in the north of Melbourne, at 2.39pm on Sunday after receiving reports of an assault.

A man has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after 10 people were allegedly involved in a fight that plunged Northland Shopping Centre in Melbourne's northeast into lockdown.
