LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lifted a curfew in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday that was first imposed in response to clashes with police and vandalism amid protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in the city.

After a week and half of protests, the curfew in downtown LA has been lifted. Meanwhile, the Dept. of Defense plans to deploy an additional 2,000 guard troops.

Los Angeles may have turned a page on emergency curfew orders, but protests appear far from over as federal raids continue in Southern California. Also, President Trump has deployed more troops to the area.

The 2,000 troops will join about 2,100 National Guard soldiers and 700 Marines who are already deployed in L.A.

The U.S. Defense Department has identified a National Guard police unit that is joining thousands of other soldiers deployed to Los Angeles to protect federal immigration officers and property amid President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
