An out-of-control wildfire on the north side of Cameron Lake has triggered an evacuation order and alert for nearby areas on Vancouver Island, close to the site of a 2023 fire that shut down Highway 4 for weeks.

The Regional District of Nanaimo has issued an evacuation order and alert for several neighbourhoods in the Cameron Lake area after a wildfire sparked overnight.

Nearly 400 properties on Vancouver Island, as well as a provincial park, have been ordered evacuated due to a wildfire burning out of control. The Regional District of Nanaimo expanded its evacuation order related to the fire burning on the north banks of Cameron Lake, about 60 kilometres from the City of Nanaimo.
