“I’m waiting for mom, she told me to wait for her,” Radio-Canada, CBC’s French-language branch, reported Claire telling police who found her. “Mom told me to wait,” the Journal de Montréal, a daily French-language newspaper reported the girl said.

Police initially said Claire had last been seen early Sunday in Montreal’s LaSalle borough. Later that afternoon, her mother reported her missing at a fireworks shop in Coteau-du-Lac, Que. The woman — 34-year-old Rachel Todd — was later arrested and charged with child abandonment.

Police say the child, Claire Bell, was reported missing Sunday afternoon in Coteau-du-Lac, Que., about 50 kilometres west of where she was last seen in Montreal's LaSalle borough.
