More than three decades of history suggest Texas should be wary of its No. 1 ranking in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll.

This is the first time that Texas has landed the No. 1 ranking in the preseason Coaches Poll. The Longhorns and Buckeyes will meet in an Aug. 30 matchup at Ohio Stadium. Texas has not won a national title since 2005.

Rounding out the top five are Penn State (14 first-place votes, 1,525 points), Georgia (three first-place votes, 1,466 points) and Notre Dame (no first-place votes, 1,360 points).
