A Brazilian judge placed former president Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest Monday for violating a social media ban during his ongoing coup plot trial. The 70-year-old ex-leader faces a possible 40-year sentence for allegedly attempting to overturn his 2022 election loss.

The ruling comes a month after Brazil’s top court ordered the former president to wear an ankle monitor, submit to a curfew and abide by limitations on his activity as legal proceedings investigating an alleged coup plot continue.
