Israel denies that it is responsible for hunger in Gaza. It called the countries’ statement “disconnected from reality” and blamed Hamas for undermining aid distribution and failing to agree to a ceasefire.

More than 100 charity and human rights groups say Israel’s blockade and ongoing military offensive are pushing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip toward starvation. Israeli strikes meanwhile killed another 21 people overnight and into Wednesday, according to local health officials.

Both Israel and Hamas are facing pressure at home and abroad to reach a deal following almost two years of war, with the humanitarian situation inside Gaza deteriorating and Israelis worried about the conditions in which hostages are being held.

Israel brought its delegation home from Gaza ceasefire talks for consultations on Thursday after Hamas delivered a new response to a proposal for a truce and hostages deal.

While U.S., Qatari and Egyptian mediators “have made a great effort, Hamas does not appear to be coordinated or acting in good faith,” Trump envoy Steve Witkoff said.
