The Air India plane which crashed last week reportedly had a "new engine," according to the airline's chairman. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Group, has revealed both of the engines within the plane when flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed on Thursday, June 12, had a "clean" history.

Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 carrying 242 people, crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad on its way to London.

Tragedy struck India last week when an Air India Boeing 787 crashed less than a minute after takeoff in Ahmedabad. Air India flight AI171 was bound for London Gatwick and was carrying 230 passengers along with 12 crew members.
