Sen. Mark Warner, Democrat of Virginia, on Sunday condemned what he described as an "outrageous" pressure campaign by the Trump administration amid a federal investigation into the University of Virginia, which led to the resignation of its president, Jim Ryan.

James E. Ryan, who had served as the university’s president since 2018, announced his resignation Friday amid the Justice Department’s ongoing probes into DEI practices at schools around the nation. Speaking on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Warner defended Ryan and predicted that other universities will not be exempt from the administration’s goals.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said in a Sunday interview that University of Virginia President James Ryan, who submitted his resignation on Friday, was given an “explicit” deadline to step aside, in a letter last week from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
