The Tla’amin First Nation says community members and guardians were working on a co-ordinated relocation effort with two other First Nations before the bear was “illegally shot, maimed and killed.”

The bear, which has been on the island for more than a month, was allegedly shot by a member of the public in the Van Anda area on Texada’s north end.

The organization said it received a report from the RCMP on Monday afternoon that the bear was shot and possibly wounded by a member of the public in the Van Anda area.
