Daniel Jones was not meant to play the amount of football he did in the Colts’ preseason opener. Head coach Shane Steichen had planned to give Jones about half of a quarter, with Anthony Richardson Sr. playing the bulk of the first half.

T he Colts quarterback competition may have gotten more complicated during the team's first preseason game on Thursday night as incumbent starter Anthony Richardson was injured on the team's second drive of the game. Daniel Jones came in to replace Richardson and did not steal the job.

Jones entered the preseason game earlier than expected when Anthony Richardson went down with an ugly pinky injury on his throwing hand.
