A record crowd for a regular-season Major League Baseball game got to see all the pomp and pageantry with the MLB Speedway Classic before the rain washed out the game itself in the bottom of the first inning.

Bristol Motor Speedway has to switch from hosting the MLB Speedway Classic and be ready for NASCAR's return to the historic racetrack for a playoff race Sept. 13.

The famed racetrack has been converted to host baseball for the showcase. Over 85,000 fans were expected on hand for the first-of-its-kind event. MLB's previous attendance record was 84,587 fans at a 1954 game in Cleveland featuring the New York Yankees.
