President Donald Trump sparred with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over the cost of renovating two buildings at the Fed headquarters.

Trump, standing alongside Powell in a matching hard hat, told reporters that construction costs for the building had gone up by almost half a billion dollars, from US$2.7 billion to $3.1 billion, leading Powell to shake his head in disapproval before saying, “I am not aware of that.”

At the construction site, Trump took out a piece of paper claiming the cost of the Federal Reserve’s renovation project had surged to $3.1 billion, compared with the Fed's official figure of $2.5 billion. Powell called him out on it, and that awkward interaction and live fact-check is going viral:
