With the release of version 8, the venerable open-source database now runs on Windows, widening its appeal to corporate customers.

The PostgreSQL Development Group on Wednesday is releasing PostgreSQL 8.0, an upgrade to the open source object-relational database featuring native support for Windows.

The new version of open-source database PostgreSQL, which is already in beta, is expected to go into production within three months and will for the first time run natively on Windows.
