LaToya Cantrell faces charges of conspiracy, fraud and obstruction over an alleged “scheme” that prosecutors say cost the city $70,000

New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell is facing federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges after being indicted this week along with a former member of her security detail.

The indictment is the culmination of a long-running federal corruption investigation into Cantrell, the first female mayor in the city’s 300-year history.
