Rescuers battled heavy rain and blocked roads in India’s Himalayan state of Uttarakhand on Wednesday, after four deaths in sudden flooding and landslides the previous day left dozens missing and an entire village submerged under sludge.

Officials say more than 100 people are missing after a cloudburst triggered devastating flash floods in India's northern state of Uttarakhand. Rescue operations are under way in Uttarkashi district after a gigantic wave of water gushed down the mountains into Dharali village on Tuesday, submerging roads and buildings in its path.

Flash floods swept away several homes and shops in northern India, killing at least four people and leaving many others trapped under debris, officials said Tuesday.
