Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season by Wednesday and could become a major Category 3 hurricane by the weekend. But as of now, Erin is not expected to post a direct threat to the U.S.

Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the eastern Atlantic. Erin is expected to strengthen as it makes its way west across the Atlantic. Current forecasts predict it'll become a major hurricane, with sustained winds of 115 mph, within the next five days.
