Relations between Ottawa and New Delhi hit rock bottom in 2023 after former leader Trudeau accused India of being behind an assassination plot

Prime Minister Mark Carney said his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Alberta on Tuesday was a "necessary" step toward rebuilding the relationship between the two countries.

The G7 released a series of statements vowing to work together on issues including critical minerals, transnational repression and artificial intelligence — but notably absent was the war in Ukraine.
