The BC Wildfire Service says the Wesley Ridge wildfire on Vancouver Island has grown to more than five square kilometres as numerous fire departments on the Island converge on the blaze to protect properties and structures around Cameron Lake.

An out-of-control wildfire on the north side of Cameron Lake has triggered an evacuation order and alert for nearby areas on Vancouver Island, close to the site of a 2023 fire that shut down Highway 4 for weeks.

The property is among nearly 400 under evacuation order due to a nearby wildfire burning on the north shore of the lake. Instead of making their annual summer visit, Morton and her brother Kenneth are watching from their homes in Bella Coola and worrying whether the cabin will be saved.
