Newly crowned French Open champion Coco Gauff was stunned on her return to action Thursday, losing to Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu 6-3, 6-3 at the Berlin Open.

Coco Gauff faced a surprise at the Berlin Ladies Open following her debut loss to Xinyu Wang. The Chinese player delivered an upset to the American, defeating her 6-3, 6-4 and knocking out the two-time Grand Slam champion early.

Coco Gauff suffered a surprise defeat in her first match since her French Open triumph as world No. 49 Wang Xinyu upset the No. 2 seed 6-3 6-3 to progress into the quarterfinal of the Berlin Open.
